Smile to feel great

Often even mildly depressed people start to withdraw from social contact but research shows that smiling can make you feel good in an instant. Smiling releases endorphins which are your body’s natural pain killer and make you feel great all over. Here is how to try some smile therapy.

Mirror work

On days 1 and 2 spend sometime looking at your face in a mirror – look deeply into your eyes for several minutes. On days 3 & 4 explore your face in a loving way and start to appreciate yourself and your eyes. From day 5 smile back at your reflection. Make sure its a smile of genuine warmth and affection.

Social smiles

Get some endorphins swimming round your body with some social smiling. Safely pick four people to smile at today; in the supermarket, whilst walking the dog; at the school gate – whatever. Enjoy smiling because it really does make you and the person you are smiling at feel good.
